Dear Winter Project Reader, It’s the last Thursday I’ll be writing to you during the proper winter season. March 20th marks the proper beginning of the spring season. Whether the weather responds to that or not is yet to be seen. I want to thank you for joining us this winter. Thank you for learning… Continue reading Press On, Dear Friends

Field Notes from Vermont

My husband and I spent our 5 day winter vacation in Vermont. It was absolutely marvelous. I was definitely living my best life in the freezing temperatures and layers and layers of snow. While I was there, I took some time to jot down my thoughts about place, people, and roofs. This post isn’t super organized or neat, but these were some of my more organized thoughts from our winter trip.

7 Thing I’m Thankful for This Valentine’s Day

If you’re over the sappy Valentine’s Day stuff, this post is for you! Today brings a really aggressive range of emotions. And I got you. “No matter who you are, you feel something today. Maybe it’s happy-slappy-over-the-moon love or deep, bitter resentment at your singleness. Or maybe you find yourself somewhere in between. Wherever you are—mentally, emotionally, physically—you are definitely feeling something. On holidays like this one, I tend to feel like I am being manipulated into feeling a certain way. (Cynical, right?) Today, for example, we’re supposed to celebrate love. Ironically for me though, when I really start thinking about love, I find myself overwhelmed with a completely different thing: thankfulness.” Check out “7 Things I’m Thankful for This Valentine’s Day” for a list of things I’m thankful for this cold snowy February day. (I promise it’s not sappy stuff.)

Except for one thing: there was still a… Continue reading Embracing Muddy Moments

The Best Books for Cozy Winter Reading

One thing we love about winter is that it naturally lends itself to reading. Nothing is more pleasant than cozying under a blanket with a cup of tea, coffee, or cocoa, and reading a good book. In fact, some of my earliest memories of winter are of reading inside during snowy, overcast days. My Mom… Continue reading The Best Books for Cozy Winter Reading

Shopping for Swimsuits in 8 Degrees

I'll admit it: this is the part of winter when I start imagining summer. I don't even really like summer. But when you live near the Great Lakes and get twelve inches of snow in one weekend and spend three days under two layers of blankets because outside it's eight degrees, you start imagining summer.… Continue reading Shopping for Swimsuits in 8 Degrees

Staying Toasty: Tips for a Cozy Winter

If you're anything like me, nothing saps your energy and joy more than being cold. As a person who's highly sensitive, extreme hot or cold drives me crazy, and cold weather especially makes me want to stay curled up in my nice warm bed all day. I gape in bewilderment at those people (we all… Continue reading Staying Toasty: Tips for a Cozy Winter
