Hi, my name is Jenny and I love winter.
I was born and raised in south-central Pennsylvania before moving to western Pennsylvania to attend Geneva College. It was during my second year there that I met Hannah in an editing class. She was a cool, first-semester senior, while I was a lowly sophomore fresh off an abrupt major change (math to writing). I had found her blog a couple months earlier and was a fan. So naturally, when we had to pair off for editing work in the class, I asked the cool older girl if she wanted to work with me *bows with humble submission*. To my surprise she said yes. And we’ve been best friends since about two months after that initial meeting. In fact, she was my matron of honor at my wedding a year after that.
We’ve worked to remained close even though we’re now a heart-breaking 300 miles apart. I now live in a lovely little house in Maryland with my husband, Tim. During the week you can find me at a desk in a publishing company’s customer service department sending emails. When I’m not sending emails, I like to cultivate my John Green addiction, collect commencement addresses, and play Fortnite with Hannah.
I wanted to write this blog with Hannah after a failed attempt to write a paper on the topic of winter in college. At the time I was unable to write the paper because I couldn’t get past my anger at people who seemed to needlessly hate winter. Based on the location of our college we got snow, not like Erie-levels of snow, but a decent amount, and I couldn’t understand why people were such negative nellies about it. (I’d be lying if I didn’t admit that part of my college decision was based on the promises the admissions staff made regarding the amount of snow the college received.) However, with time, some distance, and the peaceful guidance of Hannah, I have come to a place where I am able to talk about my love of winter without simultaneously throwing out ad hominem attacks at my audience. In short, I love winter with all my being and want to help others, if not love the season, at least think twice before saying they hate it.
All my love,
